The main red grape of Umbria, best known for the wine Sagrantino di Montelfalco. An incredibly robust and tannic variety that is full-bodied with spicy fruit, it needs long term cellaring to allow the tannins to evolve. Also makes a red dessert wine in the form of Passito.
