Malvasia

Malvasia is grown all over Italy and there are many local versions, from both white and red grapes. The best white is Malvasia Istriana from the small zone of Istria in Friuli, where the grape makes aromatic, peachy wines with good complexity, although production is tiny. Malvasia is one of the two grapes used for Tuscany’s famous dessert wine, Vin Santo and also the famed dessert wines from the Aeolian Islands, Malvasia delle Lipari.
